Lose Weight and Reduce Health Care Cost

In the midst of all the hype about health care, average United States citizens–both Democrats and Republicans–seem to boil down their concerns to two basic questions: What will my health insurance cover? And how much will it cost? Everyone wants affordable health insurance and to reduce health care cost without sacrificing quality of care. Now, health care reform (no matter your definition of the term) is one way to address these concerns, but people can also take additional measures to reduce their health care cost.

To some degree, what happens in politics concerning health care is out of our control, but living a healthy lifestyle is not. Those who eat nutritious, well-balanced meals and who exercise regularly are far less likely to become ill and to need extensive health care. Of course, there are exceptions, but a healthy lifestyle can prevent a number of illnesses and tragedies that are not only expensive in terms of medical cost, but can also damage a person’s quality of life.

And an all-to-prevalent disease that affects millions of Americans is obesity. Obesity increases a person’s likelihood for heart attack and stroke. Those who are overweight or obese are also more likely to have type two diabetes, sleep apnea, cancer, and liver disease. Being obese can also cause joint and tissue damage, and all of these problems result in higher health care costs.

Exercising and eating nutritious foods will put people on the fast track to weight loss, and some organizations, such as Incenta Health, are encouraging employee weight loss programs to help employers reduce health care cost and to help motivate employees to lose weight in the place where they spend most of their time.

Everyone wants to reduce health care cost, and this complex concern has a simple solution: live a healthy lifestyle.

Getting Rid of Debilitating Migraines

My best friend from high school has been suffering from migraine headaches for as long as I have known her.  There were times in high school, rare occasions, when her headaches would be so bad that she would have to stay home from school.  That didn’t happen very often, maybe once or twice a year.  However, as time passed the headaches got worse.  After high school graduation she and I became roommates in college.  We shared a tiny studio apartment with a bunk bed.  When her migraines would hit she would turn out the lights, close the shades, and hole up in the top bunk.  This started happening a couple times a month.  But after she graduated and got married, the migraines began to hit full force, once or twice a week.  She looked into every kind of remedy available: pain relievers, supplements, dietary changes.  She had hospital scans and check-ups and visited several specialists.  Nothing seemed to work.  Then she started going to a chiropractor and things looked up.  Regular spinal adjustments reduced the number of her migraines dramatically.  Although she still gets migraines regularly, the amount and severity has been greatly reduced.

If you are in a similar situation and suffering from regular migraine headache pain, perhaps visiting a chiropractor can offer the kind of relief my friend experienced.  Regular spinal adjustments can improve the function of the body and reduce the causes of headache pain.  Residents of Folsom, California looking for a Folsom chiropractor will find that the licensed experts at Blue Oak Chiropractic can help.  As my friend would attest, your headache pain shouldn’t disrupt your life.

Most Popular Water Sports

The majority of the earth is covered in water so it makes sense that water sports are enjoyed by millions of people every year all across the world.  From California to the Ivory Coast, water offers an exciting medium for sports of all kinds.  Here is a list of some of the most popular water sports.

Surfing

One iconic American sport, although it is not limited to Americans, is the sport of surfing.  A surfer uses a board to ride or “surf” along the face of a breaking ocean wave.  Bodyboarding and bodysurfing are two other forms of surfing.  The sport has its roots in the Polynesian Isles where early explorers spotted natives surfing on waves.

Watercraft

One of the most enjoyable water sports is driving a personal watercraft.  Personal watercraft, as opposed to a boat, is a type of water vehicle on which the operator sits or stand, instead of riding inside of it.  An inboard engine powers a pump jet that creates thrust and propels the craft through the water.  Most personal watercraft can seat at least two people and some are designed to seat up to four.

Waterskiing

In this exciting water sport, an individual is towed behind a motorboat by a cable.  As the boat picks up speed the skier uses a two skis strapped to their feet to skim along the surface of the water.  Another form of waterskiing is called barefooting.  In this sport, the individual uses their bare feet to skim along the water behind the speedboat instead of skis.

Sailing or Yachting

Although sailing was originally a form of essential transportation, in most countries it is only practiced as recreation.  Sailboats are controlled by a series of intricate sails.  A sailor must be able to manage the sails so that the force of the wind propels the boat at the desired speed.

Chiropractic Care: An Alternative Method of Healing

Aside from going to a hospital, there are other options where someone can be relieved of his medical condition. Health is of great importance to all of us so to be functional. That’s why we’d do anything just to maintain our health. Currently, there are a lot of methods and treatments being introduced which of course do not include medications and surgeries.

One of these methods is chiropractic treatment. It is a natural and effective way of optimizing health. As what I have heard it involves putting pressure to the affected area and thus relieves you from spinal and extremity pains, headache, and muscular spasms.

I love going to the chiropractor.  On my last visit to the Folsom chiropractic clinic I was impressed with their great services.  First, they educate you and clear your mind from any misconceptions. They also explain properly the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system and how chiropractic treatment sets in and works its wonders. Once a chiropractic patient is all knowledgeable, the treatment is started. The chiropractors are the one trained for this. They are equipped with the skills and specialized techniques that help them identify any misalignments or fixations and then apply a gentle force to correct it.  The good thing is, it just doesn’t end there. They still aid you in your lifestyle modification and perform nutrition and diet counseling.

The great advantage of this kind of treatment is that I don’t have to worry about any physical changes and postoperative condition or side effects of medications. Chiropractic health is all natural and rejuvenating and a step towards reaching a higher level of wellness.

Artwork Stimulates our Mind and Emotion

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight. It brightens even the darkest days. These are just few of the famous sayings that would encourage us to start our day with a smile. Smiling is a disease. It can spread and infect others to smile too. Once you smile, you can never tell that it gives someone a reason to smile also.

There are a lot of reasons why people never give a smile. Top on the list might be because they are not confident enough to show their set of teeth. When we have this kind of problem, we tend to try to just close our mouths most of the time. From my own personal experience, I chose not to talk especially when I have tooth decay. Such experience really embarrasses me and reduces my self esteem. In times like this, the only person that could save my soul from embarrassment is a dentist.

Some people might back out when a dentist is mentioned due to the fear of the drilling sound and the immense pain which are usually shown in movies. But for a Charlotte cosmetic dentist, that’s a lame excuse, because their top priority is the comfort of their customers. They not only perform simple tooth extractions but they also offer services that will satisfy your vanity, services that in one way or another relaxes you while waiting in line. Through this, we regain our personality back and our self esteem is at its peak.

Owning a great set of teeth and a perfect smile is never impossible. If we want others to make a good impression towards us, we need to enhance ourselves and trust the experts.

It is Wonderful Living so Close to a Park

I love having a park nearby.  In neighborhoods we have lived in, in the past, going to parks or trails or anything fun required a short drive.  Now that we live so close to a large park, it is interesting hour much of our life now revolves around it.  Before, I could only stand to go on a one or two mile run because I was running on city streets dodging cars and waiting at traffic lights.  Now, I can access a paved river trail from the park and enjoy a three or four mile run in either direction without anything to interrupt my solitude.

I have also taken advantage of this access for roller blading and mountain biking.  There are some excellent dirt trails nearby as well that make it easier to get my bike out of the garage.  Our park is quite large so we have had picnics there, large group bar-b-que’s, and just plain old family fun.  On Saturdays there is a section of the park the is set up with field marking paint for use as a soccer field, and there are youth soccer games all morning.  In rainy weather there is a huge pavilion with about twenty tables that are very helpful.

Now that we have all this, I cannot imagine living in a different place that didn’t have these amenities.  What I think is funny, is there are plenty of people in our neighborhood who have never been to the park.  Some never even knew there was a river trail.

A Perfect Christmas Gift Craft

This craft has been a simple, yet favorite decoration at Christmas time.  The items you will need to gather for this project are as follows:  Two mini clay pots that are two inches in diameter, and two large wooden beads which are used for Joseph and Mary.  Next, obtain one clay saucer and one small wooden bead for baby Jesus.  Third, you will need some straw or moss, a small bit of string, a small stick, some flexible packaging, doll hair, and some strips of fabric or felt (some that are colorful and another that is white), and small amounts of the following colors of paint, flesh colored, pink, dark brown, and a black sharpie.  Finally, some hot glue and a glue gun.

Start out by painting the clay saucer brown for the base of the nativity.  Then paint the wooden beads a flesh color that will be used as the heads.  Ad some daps of pink paint, or blush, to give them rosy cheeks.  Turn the two pots upside down and glue the large beads on top making Mary and Joseph.  Use the sharpie to create two dots for eyes and a small smile.

Take the material and make coats or robes that drape over their heads.  Tie the string around them like a belt.  Place the stick in Joseph’s belt as a staff.  Lay the straw or moss in the clay pot and cover the bottom of the small bead, baby Jesus, with a cloth.

Be sure to use enough packaging material appropriate to protect the nativity from damage while shipping.  As simple as this is, it makes a very cute nativity.

The Advantages of Artificial Turf

Artificial lawns have begun to be a lot more popular in use in sporting fields across the country.  There are several significant benefits to having artificial lawn or astro turf.  One obvious advantage is that you will never have to mow the grass again.  This means no purchase of lawn mowing and lawn care equipment.  There is no lawn mowing crew.  There is no need to water or fertilize the lawn.  Although the initial installation of an artificial lawn comes with a price tag, over time the field will pay for itself.

Most turf used in professional sports fields can last up to ten years.  The only real maintenance is periodic cleaning, as well as reapplying the field marking paint to keep it looking bright.  Other factors contribute to the longevity of the turf as well.  Outdoor turf will be exposed to ultra violet rays.  If chemicals or food items other that water are spilled on the turf, this can also decrease the lifetime of the turf.

Different turf is made for different activities, some requiring more durability than others.  Residential turf that only occasionally has someone walk across it will last much longer than a section of turf that regularly has football opponents competing on.

Believe it or not, you can get weeds in your artificial grass if you do not properly care for it.  Seeds can fall down in the fibers, and when they receive a little bit of water, voila.  Weed control on artificial turf is obviously much easier to control than real grass.

A Very Successful Family Reunion

I have to give my wife a lot of credit for pulling off such an incredible family reunion.  She had never organized an event even close to something like this, but it went perfectly.  Those that were invited were two family lines that went back to two sisters.  The various families lived all over in numerous states.  My wife chose a central location and planned a three day event well in advance.  It was a good idea for her to require an rsvp as well as a payment to contribute to the event because it allowed her to properly plan for the correct number of people.

The first night we all met at a pizza restaurant where we had a room reserved.  It was good to have our first visit with all of the family, without having to worry about much, or any cleanup.  The next day we all met at a clubhouse that we had reserved.  With the help of a northern Virginia catering company, all of the meals were pulled off flawlessly.  We had a variety of food.  There were activities planned for every section of the day, and they all went well.  We had a talent show, an afternoon for swimming, water balloon fun, activities for the kids, etc.  I had my camcorder with me and was able to get a lot of footage of all of the family.  The facility was great as well and was an added bonus for the reunion.

I don’t know that these two sides of the family will ever get together again.  This event has created memories that will last a life time.
