Accreditation has found a route into many educational conversations. Why is accreditation important? How can I verify my degree is adequately accredited? Will an online degree be accredited in the same manner as an on campus degree would be? For those looking to work both nationally and internationally, accreditation is extremely important. However, as the rise in ‘diploma mills’ and ‘fake’ accreditation bodies continues, new students may find it difficult to differentiate the good from the bad.

Why is accreditation important?

Accreditation is important as it ensures that degree content, tutoring and the outcomes of degree studies are attained to a specific level. Accreditation guarantees that each degree is continually monitored to achieve high standards both in the areas of industry appreciation and academics. Should any institute fall below the set standards of accreditation and fail to regain the specific set of standards, they will loose the status of having recognized accrediting body.

Are online accredited degrees in the same manner as on-campus studies?

Yes, any degree that is accredited by a “recognized” body will receive the same level of accreditation as the same degree completed on-campus.

How can I verify if my degree is nationally recognized?

Within the U.S there are two bodies appointed to monitor accrediting bodies:

  • The U.S Department of Education.
  • Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

For checking the validity of your accreditation internationally, it is advisable to contact the monitoring body for your chosen profession in each country, as accreditation can vary from country to country.

If you are looking to kick start your career, education is the solid foundation block for your success, and accreditation is the key ingredient to choosing your specific degree.
