Online Universities: Be Praised and Beware

As gas prices rise and everything from transportation to groceries becomes more expensive, I am increasingly grateful for things like online learning which allows students to learn course material and earn their college degree from the comfort of their own home.

In addition to saving money on transportation, online colleges and universities also make college degrees more accessible to people with full-time jobs and other time commitments that prevent them from attending brick and mortar schools.

The most important thing to check for when you sign up for an online degree program is accreditation though. After all, there are a lot of bogus schools out there who promise to award valuable degrees that are actually worthless because the institution failed to earn accreditation. Without that essential stamp of approval, no employer or successive university will honor the degree you spent time and money earning.

Once you get past the accredited hurdle, it would also be wise to look for schools that specialize in your field of interest. One of the quickest and easiest ways to find the schools you’re looking for is to use degreesearch.org. They only recommend accredited schools and it is easy to search for them based on the program you need. For more information, visit their website at http://degreesearch.org/.
